"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Gandhi
"When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world." - Author Unknown

PEACE ONE DAY
"In 1999, preoccupied with questions about the fundamental nature of humanity and the most pressing issues of our time, filmmaker Jeremy Gilley launched Peace One Day and set out to find a starting point for peace. He had a mission: to document his efforts to establish the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence with a fixed calendar date.
MISSION: Peace One Day looks to engage all sectors of society, including governments, organisations of the United Nations system, regional and non-governmental organisations and individuals in observance of 21 September, through the practical manifestation of non-violence and ceasefire in accordance with UN GA Resolution 55/282, and encourage action on Peace Day that creates a united and sustainable world."

Help Save Japan's Dolphins
In The Cove, a team of activists and filmmakers infiltrate a heavily-guarded cove in Taiji, Japan. In this remote village they witness and document activities deliberately being hidden from the public: More than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are being slaughtered each year and their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan, often times labeled as whale meat.
To really make an impact on this issue, we must get the word out in Japan and urge action from our own leaders. We believe that once the world and the Japanese people know, they will demand change. Help us save Japan's dolphins. Click the link above to demand action from our leaders!

Take action! Send this e-mail to the Chinese Ambassador in your country.
"I am writing to protest the indiscriminate mass killing of dogs in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, China.
Killing dogs that have rightful owners is a violation of the basic rights of a citizen. Although China does not have legislation that protects the welfare of animals, its Constitution calls for the protection of personal property, which includes companion animals rightfully owned.
Killing of dogs by clubbing, beating, hanging and drowning is cruel, inhumane and unacceptable in any society around the world. It projects images of violence and brutality, which is very much in contradiction to the image of harmony China as a country hopes to project to the world.
The cruel killing of dogs will be traumatic for animal owners in China, deeply disturb animal lovers all around the world, create conflicts with citizens, and inflict tremendous damage to China's image as a progressive country, particularly at a time when China prepares to celebrate its 60th birthday.
I urge you to contact Qinhuangdao local government and advise them to stop this dog cull immediately, and to put humane legislation in place that will outlaw cruelty to animals, proactively control dog overpopulation problems, and meet the growing needs of Chinese citizens that want dogs as companion animals.
Yours sincerely,
[Your name]"

* "From the outset, the founders of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, or IFAW, rejected the notion that the interests of humans and animals were separate. Instead they embraced the understanding that the fate and future of harp seals-and all other animals on Earth-are inextricably linked to our own" - http://www.ifaw.org
